January 7 is National Tempura Day!
Tempura is a popular deep fried Japanese dish comprised of lightly battered seafood and vegetables. The traditional tempura batter is prepared with cold water and wheat flour, and differs from other batters by excluding eggs from its recipe.
Although tempura is generally associated with Japanese cuisine, it is a little known fact that the dish was first introduced by the Portuguese.
