February 17 is Michael Jordan’s Birthday!
Michael Jordan, known by fans as “MJ,” is a former professional American basketball player, who is known as one of the greatest athletes of all time. Born on February 17, 1963 as Michael Jeffery Jordan, he started out his basketball career in high school, even though he didn’t make the team until his junior year.
MJ received a basketball scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and helped lead the Tar Heels to a national championship in 1982. In 1984, he was drafted to the Chicago Bulls and helped them win NBA championships in 1991, 1992, 1993. After a brief period of time spent as a baseball player, he returned to help them win championships again in 1996, 1997, and 1998.
During the length of his basketball career, Michael Jordan amassed several awards. He won five MVP Awards, three All Star Game MVP Awards, six NBA Finals MVP Awards, the 1988 Defensive Player of the Year Award, and the 1999 ESPN Greatest North American Athlete of the 20th Century, among others.
