15 Years! 15 Minutes of Fun!

This October marks the 15th anniversary of Calendars.com. 15 years. Wow.

We’ve decided to celebrate in a big way this month, 15 years after all is nothing to shrug your shoulders at. So, in addition to being thankful for 15 amazing years, we’ll find, and share, ways to have fun every single day.

October 1 – Flip Day

In celebration of Flip Day this month, reread our post about the perfect command center here. Start your month off right and get your house in order!

October 2 – Snoopy’s Birthday

Celebrate Snoopy’s Birth by dusting off your copy of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”. It IS about to be Halloween after all. Then follow my Mom’s recipe for Puppy chow below, it promises to be a great time!

9 cups Rice Chex 1/4 cup butter
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips 1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup peanut butter 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Measure cereal into large bowl and set aside. In 1 quart microwaveable dish heat your chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter uncovered on High for 1 minute; stir.

Microwave at 30-second intervals until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla. Pour mixture over cereal and then stir until evenly coated. Pour into resealable plastic bag.

Add powdered sugar. Seal bag and shake until well coated. Spread onto wax paper to cool. Store in airtight container.

October 3 – Tommy Lee’s Birthday

In a month when we’re celebrating 15 years how could we NOT celebrate the births of others. Happy Birthday to Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee, he turns a young 52 today! For your fun today, go order the Motley Crue calendar here.

October 4 – Leave it to Beaver Debuts

The iconic show ‘Leave it to Beaver’ aired on this date in 1957. For fun today check out these fun facts you never knew about this great show!

October 5 – Munich Oktoberfest Ends
Munich Oktoberfest Ends

Celebrate Oktoberfest at home with this simple recipe courtesy of Gal on a Mission. This activity is lederhosen optional.

¼ cup canned pumpkin puree {not filling}
½ cup sugar
¼ cup water
½ bottle of Oktoberfest beer
2 scoops of vanilla ice cream
¼ cup heavy whipping cream
3 tbsp powdered sugar

In a small saucepan, combine pumpkin puree, sugar, and water. Mix until a syrup like consistency. Mix together heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar using an electric mixer.

Set aside. Using a large mug fill in ½ of cooled pumpkin syrup and ½ bottle of Oktoberfest beer. Add in 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream. Plop on ½ of the whipped cream. Garnish with pumpkin pie spice mix.

October 6 – Our first calendar ever sold.

The very first calendar we ever sold was a ‘Cowboys 2000 Wall Calendar’ by Browntrout publishing. Our first customer, Cherly Kemmer, is still our customer today. Our first employee, Jessica Maier, is still here 15 years later.

Use this day to reflect on your past ‘firsts’ and how they made you who you are today.

October 7 – First photographs of the far side of the Moon.

55 years ago people caught their first glimpse of the far side of the Moon thanks to the Soviet Union’s Luna 3 probe. Share this story with your family and then use this recipe to build your own moon sand!

4 cups of play sand (try your local hardware store)
2 cups of corn starch
1-3 cups of water
Pumpkin Pie Spice
Orange Food coloring or Powdered Paint

Combine all ingredients and mix well. Start with one cup of water and then add more slowly until you reach your desired consistency.

October 8 – National Bring Your Teddy Bear to Work Day
National Take Your Teddy Bear to Work Day

Take Your Teddy Bear to Work Day is kind of like “take your daughter/son/pet to work day”…but without the fear of distractions, messes, and complete destruction of your workplace.

You may have to prepare for teasing from your co-workers if you’re the only one still holding on to a teddy bear. But don’t let that stop you from celebrating Take Your Teddy Bear to Work Day.

Your beloved teddy bear has been with you through good times and bad, so let him into your work life and show him off with pride!
