National Wear Red Day

Happy National Wear Red Day!

National Wear Red Day occurs on the first Friday in February to help raise awareness of the dangers of heart disease to women.  Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women in the country, so in 2004 the American Heart Association (AHA) started the Go Red for Women Campaign to inform women of the dangers of this silent killer.

Each year, companies and organizations across America join forces to raise awareness and money to support education and research. Women can find information about diet choices and exercise routines to help lower their risk, and anyone who wears red this weekend will receive a special 20% discount at Macy’s stores.

CALENDARS.COM’S ‘BACK TO SCHOOL’ ORGANIZATIONAL TIPS

My mother always had this book of a day planner that she couldn’t go anywhere without. It went from her desk at work, to her car, to her desk at home and ended the day on the kitchen table. We always knew where it was and to check it before we asked to do ANYTHING. I also had a calendar posted to my door with practices, work schedule, school events, and personal dates written on it so they knew where I was any given day. – Ashton, Marketing

In my family, school supplies are bought little by little, all summer long, so by the time school starts they are fully stocked and ready to go. Then the week prior to school starting we begin the morning and evening school routines, so no one is grumpy about waking up or going to bed once school starts.  – Steve, Customer Service

A friend of mine has six children and all are still in school. She has a cubby for each child with their name on it where they place ALL school related articles: backpacks, permission slips, report cards, homework, etc. That way no papers are lost, misplaced, or mixed up with a sibling’s. Yes, she’s a VERY busy lady! – Jessica, Merchandising

We start by getting our school supply lists early. Then, I put a copy in my purse so that I always have it with me when I see a deal. Our “master” copies are kept on the back of the front door and things are checked off as I purchase them. Then I can always see when I’m heading out what things are left to buy! – Sarah, Marketing

Calendars.com’s Favorite Places

Disneyworld!! Period!! The happiest place on Earth! The family and I are always talking about when we’re going back again and again! We still sing songs and tell stories all the time about our past trips!  -Steve, Customer Service

The great state of Texas! -Jay, Programmer

Arizona.  For its varying, incredibly beautiful landscapes, saguaro as tall as trees, and xeriscaped lawns. It’s also a short hop to California, Nevada, Mexico. As a teen and young adult I spent many a summer in the Phoenix area visiting family. Even at 124 degrees I still loved it.  Hey, it’s a dry heat! -Jessica, Merchandising

Mine is wherever I am relaxing with my family. It might be our back yard, a friend’s house, or a museum in another city. As long as I’m with them that place is my favorite. -Robert, Marketing

One of my favorite places to be in America is the San Marcos River sitting in a tube. Nothing is better than enjoying great scenery, good company, and lots of laughs. -Jordan, Customer Service

My favorite place in America is Redfish Bay in Aransas Pass, TX. There’s nothing like waking up early, getting on the boat, and then watching the sunrise with a fishing pole in your hand. Pure bliss! -Sarah, Marketing

Anna Maria Island, FL. This little known stretch of beach south of Tampa is the most pristine and beautiful place in America I have visited thus far. The water is always calm, clear, and turquois and the sand is powdery like walking on flour. There are no big hotels which leaves the you with plenty of room and they have a restaurant you can walk up to and eat at with an ocean view before you go back to some more sunbathing and relaxing. -Dennis, Analytics

Happy Flip Day™!

June is here! Each month at the office we look forward to flipping the hundred or so calendars hanging around. This month, it means even more.

Calendars.com is proud to announce a new monthly tradition, Flip Day! This is celebrated  the first of each month when you physically change your calendar from one month to the next. To start the tradition of Calendars.com Flip Day, we thought this quote is most appropriate…

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense. – Emerson

What does June mean for us?

Here are some things a few folks at Calendars.com are looking forward to:

“Father’s Day!! My little girls roll out the red carpet for Daddy!” – Steve S.

“I am going on a meditation retreat on Thunder Mountain at the end of the month. I will be offline for 10 whole days.  The name of the course is “Deep Spaces” which sounds pretty darn groovy to me!” – Christi G.

“Father’s day!” -Robert G.

Looking forward to Ian’s All Star games in Baseball! Also, I’m looking forward to watching the boys participate in the Great Outhouse Race at the Shrimporee on the 10th!  -Sarah T.

“June marks the start of the summer for my children.  Soccer camp begins this month and my parents are also traveling to Canada this month, which means they are bringing back some really cool souvenirs.” -Misty W.

I will be working on Continuing Education Credits to maintain my training certification. Looking forward to some great classes with some great trainers!”  -Elizabeth D.

I’m really looking forward to my vacation at the end of the month. It will be great to get away for a while and relax! -Ashton C.

Why is June special for you?

International Women’s Day – March 8

What is International Women’s Day?

International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate women and their achievements, both past and present.  It is a day to remember the struggles women have faced worldwide and the grace with which they overcame these hardships. German Socialist Clara Zetkin first suggested a day to honor women in 1910. The following year, the day was celebrated by more than a million people in several countries.

When is International Women’s Day?

International Women’s Day was first celebrated on March 19 in Germany, Denmark, and Austria. In 1913, it was decided that International Women’s Day would be celebrated globally on March 8.

How do people celebrate International Women’s Day?

In some countries, International Women’s Day is celebrated as a mixture of Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day with men giving flowers and candy or a small gift to the women in their lives. Grandmothers, mothers, wives, girlfriends, sisters, and daughters are recognized and admired. In some countries, women even get together for women-only dinners or day trips.
