National Creamsicle Day

August 14 is National Creamsicle Day!

National Creamsicle Day is a tasty way to cool off from the summer heat. A type of ice pop created by the Popsicle® brand, Creamsicles consist of a vanilla ice cream center covered by a layer of flavored ice, such as orange, blue raspberry, lime, grape and cherry.

Celebrate National Creamsicle Day by picking up a box of Creamsicles to share with your friends and family or by making homemade creamsicles.

Wiffle Ball Patented

On August 14, 1953, the Wiffle ball was patented. Invented by David N. Mullany, the Wiffle ball is a thin, hollow ball made of plastic and perforated with eight oblong holes on one hemisphere. Mullany designed the ball for his 12-year-old son and his friends after watching them struggle to give their ball a little curve while playing a game of baseball in the backyard. Little did Mullany know that the Wiffle ball itself would be so popular but that it would lead to an indoor or outdoor variation of baseball, also called Wiffle ball.

Celebrate the invention and patent of the Wiffle ball by reading about the Wiffle ball’s invention and surge in popularity.

Or you can get your friends and family together for a friendly game of Wiffle ball. Find the rules of the game at wiffle.com.
