Aunt and Uncle Day

July 26 is Aunt and Uncle Day!

We have days dedicated to celebrating mothers and fathers…but what about aunts and uncles? They may not have created you or spent a good portion of their life raising you, taking care of you, and putting up with your antics, but aunts and uncles gave us a lot growing up, too: good advice, an open ear (for those things you just can’t discuss with the parental units), the best birthday presents, and all the dirt on your parents’ teenage years…including a plethora of embarrassing stories.

Celebrate Aunt and Uncle Day by taking your aunt(s) and/or uncle(s) out to lunch or giving them a call. Are you an aunt or uncle? Spend some quality time with your niece(s) and/or nephew(s).

Take Your Daughter to Work Day

Take Your Daughter to Work Day falls on the 4th Thursday of April every year. In 2013, this holiday is recognized on Thursday April 25.

Take Your Daughter to Work Day dates back to 1993 when it was founded by Gloria Steinem and the Ms. Foundation for Women. This program was initiated to boost self-esteem in girls who otherwise lacked self-confidence, especially in academic and work related settings. Take Your Daughter to Work Day was founded as a way for women to explore the workplace, and assure them that they could have the same types of jobs as men.

Girls would “take off” from school and instead go to work with their mother or father. They would spend the day learning about what an office job might entail and how to act professionally in an office setting. The holiday expanded to include boys in 2003 and was renamed “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day”. Today, more than 37 million Americans at over 3.5 million workplaces participate.

Cousins’ Day

July 24 is Cousins’ Day!

You may only see your cousins a few times a year, but you could never endure long family get togethers and holiday celebrations without their company. Celebrate Cousins’ Day by spending time with your cousins outside of a family occasion, reminiscing over times spent at the kids’ table, and sharing stories about your crazy relatives.

If your cousins live too far to get together for Cousins’ Day, give them a call or get in touch through Facebook.
