April 22 is National Jelly Bean Day!

Although researchers remain unsure as to why April 22 has been chosen as National Jelly Bean Day, we’re pretty sure no one is complaining!

The jelly bean was introduced sometime during the mid-19th century and was an especially popular morale booster for troops during the civil war. Jelly beans had somewhat of a juicy revolution in the 1980s when Jelly Belly began manufacturing jelly beans made with real fruit juices. This innovation cemented jelly beans as more than just your average Easter candy.

Celebrate National Jelly Bean Day by making colorful and edible jelly bean jewelry, playing “How many jelly beans in the jar?”, or simply eating some jelly beans!

World Nutella Day

February 5 is World Nutella Day!

Nutella is a brand name chocolate hazelnut spread invented in the 1940s and introduced to the market in 1963. Nutella is manufactured by Italy-based company, Ferrero, and the spread’s main ingredients include hazelnut, cocoa, and skim milk.

National Strawberry Ice Cream Day

On January 15, we celebrate National Strawberry Ice Cream Day!

While the exact origin of strawberry ice cream is unknown, one of the first documented uses of the icy treat was in 1744 when Maryland Governor Thomas Bladen would serve it to guests and dignitaries visiting his home.

Strawberry ice cream was one of the first flavors ever invented, which adds up, seeing as early versions of ice cream were vanilla based with fruit chunks mixed in. Today, strawberry is the third most popular ice cream flavor among Americans, right behind vanilla and chocolate.

Celebrate National Strawberry Ice Cream Day by treating yourself to a few scoops of the delicious frozen dessert or having an ice cream social with your friends and family. Or, you can make your own strawberry ice cream by following this recipe.
