National High Five Day is celebrated on the third Thursday of April every year. In 2013, National High Five Day falls on April 18.
This slap-happy holiday was started in 2002 by a group of students at the University of Virginia who spent the day hanging around the campus’ main quad handing out high-fives and lemonade.
The origin of the actual high-five itself however, is the topic of some debate. Some say it was started by Dusty Baker and Glenn Burke of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1977. Others say it was initiated by Wiley Brown and Derek Smith from the Louisville Cardinals college basketball team.
Achieve the perfect high-five every time by simply looking at your high-five partner’s elbow. Try this trick out with your friends or coworkers today and see how many perfect high-fives you can hand out!
Or take a lesson from a true master high-fiver himself, Barney Stinson.
