October 26 is National Mincemeat Day!
Dating back to medieval times, mincemeat, a mixture of chopped meat, suet and fruit, was created as a way to preserve food. Today, mincemeat is often served as mincemeat pie, a traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas treat. Modern mincemeat includes chopped meat (usually beef), nuts, spices, brandy or rum and dried and fresh fruits, such as raisins, apples and pears.
Celebrate National Mincemeat Day by making a mincemeat pie for your family and friends!
